Getting Started with Your Factorio Server

Ready to build and automate massive factories with your friends? Here's how to set up the server.

1. Find your server

Go to My Services and open your Factorio server to see the console, files, and settings.

2. Adjust server-settings.json

Under Files you'll find server-settings.json, where you can set:

  • name — the server name shown in the server list
  • description — a short description
  • max_players — maximum number of players
  • game_password — optional password

3. Start the server

Click Start. The first boot generates a new world unless you've uploaded an existing save.

4. Connect to the server

Open Factorio, go to MultiplayerConnect to address, and enter your server's IP address and port.

5. Upload an existing save (optional)

Already have a factory going? Upload your .zip save file to the saves folder via the file manager and select it under Startup.

Tips

  • Enable automatic backups so you can roll back if a biter attack destroys important infrastructure.
  • Install mods by uploading them to the mods folder — remember to enable them in mod-list.json.
  • The server runs 24/7, so your factory keeps producing even while you're offline.
