How to Join Your Space Engineers Server

Step-by-step guide to joining your own or someone else's Space Engineers server without any hassle or setup issues.

How to Join Your Space Engineers Server

Once your Space Engineers server is running, there are two ways to connect, depending on whether the server is public or private.

Method 1: Direct via IP address

  1. Open Space Engineers and select Join Game from the main menu.
  2. Go to the Direct Connect / Custom Server tab.
  3. Enter your server's IP address and port (shown at the top of the control panel), e.g. 192.0.2.10:27016.
  4. Click Connect.
  5. If the server has a password, you'll be prompted to enter it before joining.

Method 2: Via the server list (public servers only)

  1. Open Space Engineers and select Join Game.
  2. Go to the Public or Friends tab, depending on the server's visibility.
  3. Search for your server name (the one you set in SessionName during setup).
  4. Click the server and press Connect.

Note: if the server doesn't show up in the public list, confirm that Visibility is set to Public in the server settings and that the port is correctly open — this is usually already configured automatically at Potionhost.

Troubleshooting

  • "Connection failed" — double-check the IP and port. Confirm the server is started in the control panel.
  • Long loading time — normal for large worlds or many players; wait a couple of minutes and try again.
  • "Incompatible version" — make sure both your game client and the server are running the same Space Engineers version. Update the server under the Startup tab.

Tips

  • Save the server as a favorite in-game so you can quickly rejoin later.
  • Share the IP and port with your friends via a simple message — they don't need access to the control panel themselves.
  • Use password protection if you only want a closed community on the server.
