Game Server Login Token (GSLT) for CS2

Counter-Strike 2 servers need a Steam Game Server Login Token to show up in the server browser. Here's how to create one and add it to your server.

Counter-Strike 2 (and CS:GO) servers need a Game Server Login Token (GSLT) to log in to Steam's master server. Without a valid token your server still starts, but it won't appear in the in-game server browser - players can only join by direct IP. The token ties the server to your Steam account, so Valve knows who runs it.

A token is free, takes about a minute to create, and you only have to do it once.

Good to know. A GSLT is bound to App ID 730 (CS2/CS:GO). The same token works for both games. If a token sits unused for a long time, or your Steam account picks up a game ban, Valve can revoke it - just create a new one.

Step 1 - Open the Steam token page

Go to steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers and sign in with your Steam account.

You need a Steam account in good standing. It can't have a VAC or game ban on record, and it needs a verified email. A brand-new throwaway account sometimes can't create tokens - use your main account if you hit a wall.

Step 2 - Fill in the App ID

In the Create a new game server account box, enter the App ID:

Field Value
App ID 730
Memo A name so you remember which server it's for (e.g. My Deathmatch server)

The memo is just a label for yourself - it has no effect on the server.

Step 3 - Create the token

Click Create. Steam generates a Login Token - a long string of letters and numbers.

Copy the whole token and keep it somewhat private: anyone who has it can run a server under your account.

Step 4 - Add the token to your Potionhost server

You can add the token in two places.

When you order the server

During checkout, paste the token into the Steam Account Token field in the server configuration.

On an existing server

Open your server, and open the Startup tab. Paste the token into the Steam Gameserver Login Token (GSLT) field, then restart the server.

That's it - after a restart your server logs in to Steam and shows up in the server browser.

Troubleshooting

  • Server still not in the browser - Check that the token has no leading or trailing spaces and that you restarted the server after saving. The console should print Game Server account logged on shortly after start.
  • "Token expired" or "invalid" in the console - The token was revoked or deleted on Steam. Create a fresh one via the link in Step 1 and paste it in again.
  • You deleted the token by accident - Tokens can't be recovered. Just create a new one; the old server entry on Steam can be removed safely.
